Shiny Kickers

Mom heard that you can shine up rusty chrome with coke and foil so she gathered all the stuff she needed and put dad to work.

He was pretty skeptical as he poured Diet Coke on the hubcap.

He started rubbing furiously but no Genie appeared.

Its getting shinier.

WOW.

This is a HUGE difference. This hack really does work!

One side still has some pitted area that just would not work but overall its about 75% nicer than it was to begin with.

Flat Diet Coke, foil and elbow grease is all it took.

Dad Shined My Lid

Dad and Mom were hoping my lid would be a bold beautiful shiny red when it was done
(its not done)
but it is sun burnt and has pitting in the red paint.

Here's my lid when Mom washed it, the black isn't coming off. Dad says that's OK because no one will see it anyway.

Here it is before Dad waxed & buffed it.

And here it is all finished and as shiny as it's going to be.
Not bad if I do say so myself.

One spot looks like I had a crack.

So today Mom got a bunch of new stainless steel screws, nuts, bolts and washers. I'm going to be sparkly and bright.

These are my old screws and washers that held on the lid holder on-ers inside my lid.

Mom took them off and Dad waxed & buffed my lid.

Here are the new screws, washers and nuts.

And here they are in my lid, just not tightened down.

Then Mom climbed up inside me and cleaned all the gunk off my roof from under my lid. Mom is not going to replace all these screws that are left up here, they are doing fine as they are right now.

There is still lots to do, lots and lots and I'm going to be feeling very good pretty soon.

Plans

Mom wants to take me on a 'venture next week so she and Dad are making tentative plans for helping me get ready.

Here is Moms list for this next week:

1. One thing at a time.
2. Clean my vinyl wrapper.
3. Fix my wrappers windows.
4. Go to the store and buy new nuts, bolts, washers & screws for my lid.
5. Put my wrapper back on me.
6. Put the screws and stuff IN my lid.

Then

7. Vacuum all my insides.
8. Photograph all my rotted wood pieces.
9. Remove my old insulation under my seats.

Not all this stuff will get done but if Mom works just a half hour each night then I will be fixed.

Dads list:
1. One thing at a time.
2. Finish brightening my back eyes.
3. Give me all new wires inside.
4. Give me LED side eyes.

Then

5. One piece at a time, replace my rotted wood.
6. Replace the old insulation with new insulation.

OK, that's enough plans for a week, lets see how much axually gets done.

Mom wants to go camping with Sarah at Manchester State Park.

I might not be done, in fact, it is highly unlikely but Mom really wants to take me for a 'venture.
That park is only ten miles from home but I don't know how far ten miles is so we could be going to China! I don't know where China is either.

June told Mom how we can fix my kicks, they have icky brown spots on them.
Moms gonna try it soon.

Dad took off my back eyes.

He got some new ones

El ee dee

Then he took the new ones apart!

Hhhhmmmm....

He's grindin' 'em down.

Here's some of the other stuff he's using on those eyes.

Here is one of my old eye lids, all fresh off my butt.
it looks kinda blurry.

Dad shinyd it all up for me.

Then he taked this goo and putted it on the eye.

Then he hooked it up to the horse trailer trailer brake battery
and its beautiful!

Here are 2 other eyes that he shinyd up.

OK, one is shinyd up and the other will be later.

Lid

The weather has cooled off about 10 degrees so its not too hot for Mom to work on me and today Dad decided to help too. Mom climbed above my head and started brushing junk off me but there was lots and I wasn't coming very clean.

The dirt and needles are from where I used to live.

My lid was so dirty that Mom decided to take my whole vinyl wrap off me.
See the screws sticking out? She had a bunch of those to remove, most of them in the icky dirt.

My lid is still pretty dirty, it just doesn't want to wipe clean.
You can see how I work;
Lid
Vinyl wrap
Top Eye screen
Roof
This all folds down when we are Zooming down the road.

All my screws are rusty so Mom is going to get me new ones, they will be bright and shiny!
Look how dirty my lid is; Grandma couldn't reach this last year when she massaged me so I'm still pretty icky.

It took a while but Mom got most of my screws out. Dad had to do some of them cuz they were stucked.

I watched from inside as Dad helped Mom.

It felt tickly when my vinyl wrap started coming off.

I feel so free !

But wait...
Mom found my magic wand!
I've been keeping it secret for a very long time.

Ah, all my vinyl is unhooked from my lid.
I'm still very dirty but Mom can now clean me without it just going onto the vinyl and hiding in it.

She is going to clean my wrap and try to replace my eyes.
Then I will be able to see better.

Dad helped Mom remove my lid all the way off.
Dad showed Mom how to use all these bottles of stuff to massage me really well and make me shine,
so if its nice enough tomorrow I might have a nice clean lid to show off.

But for tonight I don't want to get rained in so Dad and Mom put my lid back on. I feel almost complete.

Mom really needs to get this mildew outta me!

Dad started looking at my seats and found the dry rot Mom told him about last summer.

Its real icky.

He's going to have his work cut out for him.

At least now he believes her.

Mom wants to get rid of all these guts and start over. I don't know how I feel about that.

Waiting

We're just waiting here patiently for my guts to arrive...
